Capital one have just sent me an email saying that statements will no-longer include a payment slip - as all payments can be made online.
Is this the way they will all go?
I like being able to pop in the bank or post a cheque

It amazes me that so many paper alternatives still exist.
Why would you want to queue in a bank or pay for a stamp? Just why?0 -
If your computer is broken or internet down??0

Most banks will try to phase cheques out sooner or later.0

I like to post cheques cos they mark it as paid about 4 days before money goes out of your bank account. Handy if you are just short and don't want to miss the payment date.
Also if am going away - i take the statement with me and just pop in any bank. i don't have or trust mobile phone banking.0 -
2 days surely, based on 2-4-6 clearing?I like to post cheques cos they mark it as paid about 4 days before money goes out of your bank account.
DDs are even more handy, although not if you want to pay somewhere between minimum and full.Handy if you are just short and don't want to miss the payment date.0 -

Most internet banking, if not all, allow you to set-up a payment in the future, and it doesn't have to be mobile phone banking either, it can be done from any computer or laptop.0 -

Picking up the phone seems like a reasonable alternative. Setting up a direct debit or standing order?jonesMUFCforever wrote: »If your computer is broken or internet down??
Borrowing somebody else's device is also an option.
I post date my payment from my savings account, ensuring I earn interest on it until a week before the due date. You could do similar with your current account.I like to post cheques cos they mark it as paid about 4 days before money goes out of your bank account. I've seen more mistakes made by bank cashiers than I've seen problems with online banking. Also if am going away - i take the statement with me and just pop in any bank. i don't have or trust mobile phone banking.0 -
Phone them!
And listen to classical music for half an hour

That could be an alternative - never done a payment that didn't go out straight away.
Still - what about techno phobes, people without internet and people without a debit card.0 -

So don't leave it until the last minute?
Use a computer at work?
Use an internet cafe?
Use a library?
