Cooker always warm... advice needed.

We have a fan assisted oven which always has some warmth to it - more than just residual heat, and it often makes that cooling down 'ticking' noise, even when it has not been on for a ages. This is a bit worrying as it seems it is always on, even if it is just low.
Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what might be wrong - my thought was that if could be a thermostat, but hey - I know nothing about this sort of thing!
If it is a thermostat, would this be easy to fix...?
Thanks in advance.

P.S - just for information, it is a Stoves dual fuel range cooker (gas hobs, conventional oven - rarely used - and fan assisted oven).

just a thought, i have a range cooker, with a plate warmer, operated by a pushbutton which you could easily lean on and not no if its on or off! there is no lamp to say its on. could this....possibly....?????Please note, we've had to remove your signature because it was sh*te!0

Is there a mains switch on the wall or maybe a plug. Try & disconnect or switch off & see if it cools down. Then you would know for sure if something was wrong.Nice to save.0

I know i originally posted this a wee while ago, but...
Have tried un-plugging the oven (confused the OH as I didn't mention I was doing it!) and it is definitely keeping itself warm when supposedly switched off.
Wondered if it could the thermostat, or summat. Anyone have any ideas.
Cheers

 Are you telling that the oven stays warm without any source of energy?! This is impossible! :mad:Greyhound_Man wrote:Have tried un-plugging the oven ...and it is definitely keeping itself warm when supposedly switched off.0 -
Presumably not, no.
With the oven hot, familiarise yourself with the click the thermostat makes as it switches on and off while you turn it either side of the temperature you have set. As the oven cools, you can "follow" this click down the temperature scale. With the oven cold, you should be able to turn the thermostat quite a way from the "off" position until you hear the click. If not, the oven might come on in the off position and it would, indeed, seem to be the thermostat. You could try an oven thermometer to see if it is giving approximately the right temperature while the oven is supposed to be on.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -
are you sure you have unplugged the oven? silly question i know, but most ovens need to be hard wired into a cooker switch because they pull more than 13a. although i understand some duel fuel types use less elec' because they use gas, as you say, for the hobs and maybe other areas. Please note, we've had to remove your signature because it was sh*te!0

Sorry - didn't read my last post properly before posting - Doh. Think I have confused matters somewhat!
The Biff suggested that I turn the oven off to see if it cools down with it off (to rule out the fact that it could just naturally feel warmer inside).
So I turned off the mains switch for the electricity and it noticably cooled down, so it confirmed to me that it was still 'on' (producing heat) when the knob on the front said it was off.Adopt a retired racing greyhound. Go on... you know you wanna....0 -
