Package via flight and hotel?

Hope this is posted in the correct place!Please feel free to move.
Just a quick one to say that I have just booked a Thomson holiday to Egypt. (october half term 2012 Cardiff flight staying in ROBB)
I knew,after a lot of googling,trip advisor etc what hotel I wanted to stay in.
First,I went through the package option on Thomson,which fluctuated on a daily basis.(£3,600-£3,788)
I then searched other options i.e. booking.com,expedia,via hotel direct. It was more expensive.
I was just about to book through Thomson's package and thought I would look at flights first on Thomson and add the hotel. I am glad I did as by choosing the flight first then adding the hotel we wanted,brought the holiday down to £2800.
I have exactly the same flight,hotel and transfer.

Thats a massive difference- BRILLIANT!! Im going to have a try with that now as I know where I want to stay and when. Just remember though that if anything goes wrong you're not covered by TUI,. At least I think thats the case....

i stayed at reef oasis blue bay a couple of years ago, its a lovely hotel we couldnt fault it. the hotel was exclusive to thomson/first choice in the uk when we went. i tried pricing it all ways and couldnt get the price down.
its also the only holiday i have been on where we were delayed 24 hrs coming home. we were put up in the jaz mirabel beach overnight. in my opinion not a patch on robb.

Sorry for the delay. Richardw,the room description is exactly the same. Options for rooms were the same on both package holiday and flight booking,I even chose my seat on the plane as an extra and it was still up to £900 cheaper.
Looking forward to this holiday!

You can save a lot of money by booking everything separate, just make sure you use a credit card to book as you won't be covered under an ATOL licence unless it is booked as a package. Not sure about Thomson in this case, but would apply if you booked a no frills airline and the hotel direct.

The ATOL licence only covers a holiday that has both flights and hotel included.

Did you also try to book hotel VIA travel republic and flights direct, we got quoted from Thomas cook for 14 nights in June half board in Turkey with 5 of us £2750........... I booked it all separately even added a private transfer from the airport total £1450... Will never book a package holiday again, will always do it separately...

Same here i too have never booked seperately, but have booked for the first time via travel republic to turkey i july 10 nights all inclusive and have saved around £600 compared with thomas cook. This is the way to go now,will never visit a travel agent again.
