Will it affect my benefits?

Hi
I am a single mum with a 17 yo son currently doing a-levels
I receive child tax credit (not working) & council tax benefit & child benefit
If my son gets himself a part-time job (few hours a week/minimum wage) to pay for driving lessons, will it affect any of those benefits please and will I have to tell the appropriate authorities?
Or is he still just classed as a student?
Many thanks

As long as he's still a student and you're getting child benefit then any part time wages he gets won't affect your benefits.0

its worth remembering that , as an a level student, your days of ctc and child benefit are numbered.
be sure that when they end, you will be in a position, financially, to cope without the child related benefits0 -
he can work upto 24 hours a week with NO affect on benefits0

Thank you for all your help
Yes it's going to be a big financial drop when he goes to university
Even though he will probably still be living here0 -

It is a struggle when they start Uni and your CB & WT/CT stop, my ds is 19 and at Uni, but lives at home, and I am having to watch the pennies.0 -

if he was to live in uni halls it would probably cost around £90 a week self catering,so it would be an idea to get him to make a contribution from his student loans/grants and bursary to make up for your loss of benefits0 -
can you not work?0

Lets just say that your son working did affect your benefits, would you try and put him off getting a Job?
Surely, regardless of your own situation, you should be ENCOURAGING him to get a Job and get into a work routine?
Personally I think its a good thing that your Son is wanting to work and pay his own way, rather than sponging off parents / society. It promotes a work ethic and personal financial responsibility.
Maybe this question should be used on one of Martin's weekly Dilemma's
"Dont expect anybody else to support you, maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse, but you never know when each one, might run out" - Mary Schmich0
