Hi folks,
Usually I am one of the most cautious people on the net and won't be taken in by scams, but last night on going to what I thought was youtube I got a pop up about a survey saying that I was one of the people in my main regional city (which was correct) been chosen to win a pad etc. Now as I know that google can usually pinpoint my town and its connected to youtube I thought that it was genuine.
I put in some details such as mobile number address date of birth and address and answered the question about how many youtube videos I usually watch in a week, but smelt a rat when it started to get me to fill in a further survey.
Anyways got a text saying something about 5 euro lines entry a few mins later from 87770, adn an email from some site win a ipone .co.uk
Seems that instead of youtube I had typed youtibe, but how were they able to pinpoint my regional city and I am sure it wasn't a guess?

I didn't know this...but it got my organisation wrong.0 -
Get adblock and you won't get any popups - I'd also suggest the extension WebOfTrust which will warn you if the site has been rated badly by other users.0

Text the number with STOP and allow the message to be saved. It might be a good idea to then call your mobile operator and tell them you have sent the STOP notification and would like this recorded in their notes.
This number charges you for the text messages it sends to you. My son had an issue with this number last year and although he sent the STOP notification it was ignored. O2 refused to do anything about it because he had no record of the notification (he deleted it after he sent it). The number clocked up a bill of over £175 in a single month, compared to the £15 of his tariff that he rarely went over. Eventually we had to have his number changed to stop the incoming messages.
You'll also find this number isn't an officially registered short code.
It all started with a pop-up on Youtube asking him to fill in a customer satisfaction survey regarding the site.0 -
I don't have a mobile phone - when I have to enter one and would rather not put in something random I use one in the range of -
