Travel Lodge stay

Hi everyone,

My two sons and I are going away next week and I've booked 2 nights at a Travel Lodge. It's got the usual expensive Little Chef next door, but I can't afford their prices for breakfast or snacks. My older son is 6' 1", aged 14, and is ever-hungry. I thought of taking some small items, such as croissants and orange juice. Any ideas on what else to take? All suggestions would be gratefully welcome!

We're terrible when we stay in hotels! Don't be afraid to take a cool box in with you and you can put milk in for cereals, butter, jam, cheese, ham etc. If you freeze some of the milk it should last the two days no problem. We have also asked for an ice bucket full of ice to take to the room for cooling wine and drinks down. We have never been refused. You just have to have a bit of front and not be too embarrassed when you walk in! If you fancied a treat, you could always have a cooked breakfast at a cheaper local cafe???
    Have a lovely time!

What about a flask of hot milk and some porridge for the first morning? You could use it to make milky coffee too. Fresh fruit and cereals with cold milk for second morning? As Looneyleo says - take a cool box/bag, and the possibilities are wider.

Me and a mate stayed at 2 travelodge's the other week, cost £15 a night for the room. They only give you 1 towel and the bedding that's on the bed but if you go to reception they'll give you more. They also didn't mind me ignoring their over priced bar and taking 3lt of cider and a bottle of vodka up to the room *hic*.

One of them had it's own in-house cafe which did all you can eat breakfast for £7.50 and the other at a service station gave us a voucher for 20% off at the cafe next door. But we're too cheap to take up either offer and just ate the supermarket food I'd left in the van, cold pies and fruit etc

shame you couldn't find a travel inn they're normally attached to harvesters/toby carverys and they do a free buffett breakfast which i totally delish.
Other women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts

We always take a bottle of wine. I'll use the excuse that hotels can sometimes be noisy and you need help getting off to sleep. But do I really need an excuse... :D

Definately take your own milk. The plastic milk in the little pots is just awful.

Fruit travels well, apples, pears, bananas etc. (nature's portable snacks!)

A flask of chicken noodle soup and buns?

Are you driving? There's bound to be a cheap pizza takeaway/McDonalds close by or a beefeater - 241's often found on the discounts page.

Hard boil some eggs just before you set off, shell them and keep in your cool bag with bread (or rolls) and spread. Take a plastic knife so you can make egg butties for brekkie.

A carton of long-life milk and a small packet of cereal will help with snacks. (Or have the cereal for brekkie and the egg butties for snacks, but don't leave the eggs too long).

I have been known to take a pack of instant mashed potato - preferably one with cheese or cheese & onion flavouring. You'd need a small pyrex bowl with this, but if you are driving then it shouldn't be a problem. Don't forget a fork to mix it with!
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

We take grapes (washed, picked off stems and in a tupperware box), bananas, croissants or the individually wrapped pains au chocolate from lidl, cartons of orange or apple juice and ginger nuts!
If the travelodge is near a retail park we'll treat ourselves to a Mcdonalds breakfast or there might be an Asda or Tesco with a cafe.
