  • Personally would try some of the free offerings (freedating.co.uk for example) before considering paying for basically what is access to a database.

I believe it can work, there are odd people there but there are odd people everywhere and you do get much more opportunity to talk to people before doing anything with them than you would if you simply met them in a nightclub or pub

Some sites are very bad with their auto renewals or getting you clicking through on an offer but the default option selected is not the offer etc but prudent reading and double checking before sending your details is always sensible and normally avoids the pitfalls

I met my partner on plenty of fish, thats a free dating site.
  • Actually the OP was making a valid point - there are a lot of people online reporting that match.com do not stick to their terms & conditions.

    Actually, he wasn't.

He said 'I have read an old thread that Match, com were automatically re billing people automatically and were allowed to do so because of the small print' - so he was asking exactly about their terms and conditions, not about not sticking to their terms and conditions.

And he also said that he wasn't even asking about that, what he wanted to do was start a discussion about online dating. But then we all knew that, didn't we?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

  • It seems like sanbucus has seemed to take this misson as a personal issue and wants to be right regardless of the conversation or the issue.
From what I have read match.com will rebill you , and you might not realise that so be vigilant in your subscription if you don't want to be rebilled unexpectedly from them. Also be vigilant in trying to contact them regarding cancellation as the numerous thread I have read have made it clear that they can be difficult to contact. So heads Up, just in case.Good luck and happy dating.

Actually, the subject was very clear: does Match.com re-bill you automatically?

There's no mission or issue to be had about it. You posted a question, got an answer.

If you want a debate, don't ask for the price of bread. Ask about the effects of bread on vulnerable children, how the wrong type of bread can ruin lives, what Interpol is doing about it and so forth.

Ask the wrong question, you get the wrong answer.

Makes perfect sense to me... no vendetta [I have much more interesting things to think about] - it seems though you want to discuss the opposite of what you actually type.

Just a heads up for if you ever get yourself a date.

From my own experiences of using Match I found that subscriptions were easy enough to cancel with one phone call - I have cancelled twice and each time was offered the service for half price if I chose to stay.
I would recommend going via Quidco (or whichever cash back site you use) and joining for a good length of time to get the most value for money.
I actually met my wife on Match and we're blissfully happy so it does work! I tried several different dating websites including some free ones, and found that the calibre of users on Match was way above the rest (especially the free websites where the majority of women I "spoke to" were chavvy, barely literate gold diggers).
One tip I would offer is to try to meet people in person ASAP - you can speak to someone online for weeks, but you'll know if you're compatible within 10 mins of meeting in person.

  • Yes match.com is still doing auto renewal, however I went into my accountrecently to cancelled the subscription before it was due – double checked thatI had done so, for what ever reason the account was then reinstated and theyhave now charged me for another 6 months of service, I have contacted them toexplain their error, however they have advised they do not do refunds - I wouldlike to point out that I work with the internet industry and am fully aware ofhow to use a website, this is an error on their system. I stopped using matchas I found Plenty of Fish far better, the people more genuine, whereas onmatch.com the people I came into contact were often pretentious and rude.
