Is Extra Income Really Possible?

  • I write for Textbroker and Clickworker - unfortunately neither have any work available right now, but I check several times a day as it changes quickly. In the last couple of weeks I have earned around £30 between the 2 of them. I have also recently been contacted by 2 different marketing companies wanting to buy advertising space on my blog and website. This was a bit of a fluke though! I have had my website for over 10 years, and the blog for 3 years, and this is the first time anyone has contacted me offering to pay! lol

I also recently got paid by a market research company to write blog entries over the course of 10 days on tasks that they set each day. But that was a case of being in the right place at the right time!

That's the easy part, getting the traffic to your site is the difficult bit.

I think as long as you can blog about something that people will be interested in and put lots of work into it then eventually the visitors will arrive.

I think the most important thing is to pick the right topic and blog about that and only that. My choice would probably be solutions to programming problems.

Why not cut out the middle man? and offer your services straight to the IMers? at sites like the Warrior forum and http://www.wickedfire.com amongst others?

Thanks for posting those - have had a quick look, but not sure i'd be likely to get any work as there are so many posts from people with 1000's of testimonials. Although I have written for CW and TB I don't have reviews from them - I have written freelance for 1 person before, so could ask for a recommendation, but that's still only 1, lol. I guess I should try though - nothing to lose!
  • Schminky,

Where would you recommend a newbie start article or blog writing? I do surveys for Vivatic and notice they have something similar on there.

Do most articles get accepted or is it very much hit and miss?:)
  • I've not bothered with Vivatic as they only take on people for their tasks at certain times and so far i've not seen them recruiting for more.

Textbroker and Clickworker have both been pretty good for me, although the work is not necessarily constant. I've have had all my articles accepted, although a couple were sent back for minor revisions. But i've been paid for everything i've written so far (touch wood!).
  • Interesting discussion and replies, I will certainly look into it more then. So that's Blogging as a possibility, anything else I might consider for extra income?

When I'm after extra pennies I find there are several ways to earn some extra money.

    Surveys

If you stick at them through the mind numbing repetativeness that occurs you can earn a fair amount of money if you are on several paid survey sites, I use NPolls on my Iphone and have earned $30 so far from the occasional survey, and they're silly easy!

    eBay

Every year I'll do a big eBay clear out of all my stuff that I don't want. This year I earned £500 from doing it! If you want to avoid ebay fees then something like Gumtree is also an option

    Mystery Shopping

Although it's technically a second employment, you can work on the jobs you want, when you want. Companies like MarketForce and Grassroots pay very well along with covering the costs of what you buy

    Youtube

If you are able to get a successful youtube video you can earn a fair amount through advertising on the video. A few of my friends do this, but obviously some effort is needed to get your video viral!

    People per hour

There are loads of mini 1 time jobs on here if you're after something small. A lot of jobs like the photography and graphics jobs are nice and easy and well paid!
