I'm not sure where to post this topic, so apologies if it's not in the correct place.
My boyfriend has been in Afghan for about 2 weeks now. I'm about to send him a package containing bits and bobs. I know certain things i can't include. I've done some research, and I want to know if I'm allowed to send cans of coke? Can't find anything anywhere about this??
Anyone know? Thanxs

Hi Michelle,
I wouldn't advise it. Pressurised can plus it's a heavy item, won't get many in your 2kg limit!
Double check on BFPO website. Alternative, get the powdered drinks sachets that can be added to water to flavour it.
Endured a few afghan tours so know the system fairly well.

welshgirl - while care packages are gratefully recieved - its the 'letters' from home which are most treasured. try to include 'notes' and 'cards' from people he knows. even a few lines from the neighbours will be appreciated!0

Just make sure you send plenty of "blueys" - they'll be more appreciated.0

I've been wondering why people say "Afghan" for Afghanistan, the country. I keep seeing it everywhere, and I'm genuinely puzzled. I really, really don't mean to be rude by asking, only curious as to why. Is it a kind of colloquialism? English isn't my first language and despite having lived in the UK for years, I still get taken aback at times.
Sorry for highjacking your thread OP!0 -

Less to type and everyone knows where you mean. Others sometimes call it the "'Stan" but that could easily be interpreted as other places.
It's also easier and quicker to say than Afghanistan.
Also OP, once you know his address, get onto e-bluey site. Sends private letters straight to your man. Usually printed out at other end within 24hrs and you can check its progress. Google ebluey and should take you straight there (also free!)Change is inevitable...nothing stays the same forever

Could you send a big thank you from me and mine for the incredible job he and his colleagues are doing in such a dangerous place. I know this is a bit off topic but I dont know anyone personally out there and feel they deserve acknowledgement. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0

As others have said, don't bother with the coke, the place is lousy with Americans and they're never far from a can of coke.
Plus pressurised cans don't travel well in unpressurised aircraft holds.
Send him stuff he can add to his MRE to spice them up a bit, sauce like tabasco or Lea & Perrins. Also those little rectangular packs of dried noodles, they are small, light, cheap and take up a lot less room than a pot noodle.
One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0
