The Dog Games Perfect Fit harness is a real doddle to put on I think - you can leave the neck part clipped together so you literally pop it over the dog's head and do up the other clip, no need to lift legs through holes or anything. But a bit of training could help if he gets too overexcited at the sight of the lead, just simple stuff like picking the lead up and putting it back if he gets too excited, only picking it up when he calms down. May take you 20 minutes to get his collar and lead on the first time but he'll soon twig that it's only calm behaviour that gets him anywhere.
I prefer to walk mine on harnesses rather than collars as I imagine it's much more comfortable for them - I know I prefer to have the other end of the lead around my waist to have the pressure/jerks spread out more evenly than jolting my arm, so to have all that pressure on their neck can't be majorly comfy. However, do remember that you're supposed to have a collar and ID on by law. Mine wear their collars all the time but if you don't like to leave a collar on in the house, you could get a martingale collar with an ID tag on that you just slip over his head for walkies.
Getting the right fit will just vary from dog to dog and brand to brand, if he's a slightly odd shape due to being a cross, the Perfect Fit may be the solution as you mix and match parts (so you could get a part for a really deep chest but a short body, for example). A friend of mine has one and uses it as the dog's car harness too.

krlyr..the perfect fit harness looks great, however I can't see the price list.
I think he gets excited when he sees his lead because he is a rescue dog. He was picked up by the local dog warden & taken to the kennels. Dogs stay there for a while to give their owners a chance to collect them. If the owners don't collect the dog, it is then put up for re-homing. He is getting better when he sees his lead now.0 -

Not the cheapest but well-made and well-recommended by those who've used them0 -
I bought another Kurgo harness from Muddy Paws (starting price is £15.99 depending on the size you need). It's so easy to use as it just slips over his head and then you strap it around his tummy.
The first one we bought (medium) came with a car attachment (like a zip wire) that attaches from the one side of the back seat to the other (above the dog's head). You then just sit the dog on the back seat and clip the harness lead to this. He sits so well and he can still move around the back seat to get comfy but can't try and come forward into the front seat.Debt Plan 2016:
Total = £7,477
CC1 = £1,670, Loan = £4,339
Overdraft = £1,468
Savings = £2,235 (aiming for £12,000)

Well back to searching for that perfect harness.
Bought the fleece lined harness from dog-games. Great harness just not suitable for my dog.0 -
What's wrong with it? Might help people make other suggestion.0

Mainly just to loose over the shoulders. Fitted girth ok, but still had a tendency to twist slightly.
Have been looking at the Ferplast padded harness. It considers neck & girth size as opposed to just the girth measurement.0 -
I got one of these.

Clips onto any harness so you can buy which ever one you want then!
I find my dogs is less likely to get tangled up than before with the other car harnesses that I had."Things can only get better.................c/o D:Ream #The 90's
