Eligible for an NHS Wheelchair ?

My mother in law (MIL) who 85 years old is in ill health. She was diagnosed with parkinsons disease sometime ago which although only mild affects her balance causing her to fall over frequently. She suffers from asthma and has leg pain owing to psoriasis flare ups which makes a walk down to the supermarket with her daughter quite difficult and time consuming, neither of them drive. We are mostly ignorant of what her entitlements may be under her circumstances but feel a wheelchair may be one of them. A pointer in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks

Speak to her GP, who will refer to Occupational Health.0

For help with practical things like wheelchair, ask the local authority for an occupational therapy assessment which should cover help with stuff like washing, stairs etc. Not being funny, but would her daughter be able to manage to push her in a wheelchair? I've had to do this for an elderly relative and it's not as easy as it looks especially on uneven paving!
For help with benefits e.g. attendance allowance, she should get an appointment with CAB.0 -
Thanks SS and Belair.

When I first spoke to my GP and asked for help he said there were no resources available so I bought my own. Soon after I found there were resources and it was too late.
So if you speak to your GP and he offers help fine but if not check to see if you can see an OT in your area. Apparently the help can vary from area to area - where are you?0 -
