Hi, not sure if im asking in the correct place, as its my first time to ask for help, but my daughter who is type 1 diabetic is off to uni next week, my husband is off work with a broken arm,he has been off for 6 weeks and the hospital said his arm is still not showing any sign of being fixed and has been signed off again for a furthur 3 weeks. I was her carer till this year when she turned 18 and i am searching for work ,but cant claim job seakers as my husband is trying to get income support top up due to him only getting statuary sick pay of 85 pounds a week in which we are struggling, as this is our only income we cant afford to buy a fridge at this time, we thought the uni were going to provide her with a fridge for her room for her medication etc untill they called yesterday and told us we have to buy one. we applied for income support top up a few weeks ago but they have still not started dealing with the request. her loan will not be paid untill october so we are really worried about her not having a fridge, i wanted to ask is there anywhere we can ask for help? as im at a loss as to what to do . can anyone help with any info? i would be most gratefull, thanks one very worried mum

Join your local Freecycle/Freegle group (Yahoo groups) and post a Wanted ad'.
Don't give a sob story as to why you want a fridge.
Wanted: Fridge, (your area)
Lovely home offered for unwanted fridge.
Will get a better response than.

Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!0 -

I would go on to adtrader and search locally for a beer fridge.
I did this to store extras in in our garage. I paid £20. Perfect for a student.
To get the £20 just sell some unwanted DVD's etc.Life is short, smile while you still have teeth0 -
Has she applied for DSA?0

Does she have other problems apart from diabetes as she needed a carer?
If so i am sure the disability people at Uni will help her.0 -

Diabetes alone is sufficient to apply for DSA.0 -
She needed a carer at home but she won't have a carer while she's a full-time university student. I don't understand this - surely a contradiction?Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Her diabetes must be very poorly controlled if she needed a carer at age 18 was what I was thinking. A fridge won't sort that out.0 -

There is no "If so" about it, she is entitled to DSA solely on the grounds of having diabetes. The OP has asked about a fridge, nothing more, for all we know the other assistance could have already been arranged.0 -

So sorry. I hadn't realised that diabetes was a disability. I thought it was a manageable (usually) condition.0
