Actually, I'd say it was: atm they probably go out with either a list of roads to target, or they pick their own. I'd rather those doing this job were NOT given personalised information about who's already giving. And if it's not personalised, it's not that much use!

Indeed. Charities use the fundraising methods which they find effective. The larger charities will know exactly what is raised by each method. If these methods didn't work, they'd stop using them.

DS1 started giving to Save the Children after being stopped by a chugger. I know it would have been better if he'd given direct, but actually I was impressed that he'd agreed: he's not noted for his altruistic spirit ...

  • Hi,

I had a couple of fundraisers knocking on my door the other night, and they said something new; they said if I signed up to donate via Direct Debit, I'd be doing so for a minimum of 1 year. Is this strictly true, i.e. could someone cancel when they wanted to, or are the collectors now acting like gyms and having minimum contracts?

Also, the new ploy is to say that all the money collected will go to the charity as the charity has already paid for the collecting. Of course, what they don't say is how much of the money collected this time around goes to pay for the next bout of collecting.
