Advice please - how can I kill off the weeds and plants in my borders?

Advice please -
how can I kill off the weeds and plants in my borders?
There are a few plants and shrubs but mostly weeds.
I'd like to clear the borders so I can grow grass in there and make the lawn area larger. I'm worried if I can't clear them these large weeds I'll continue to grow through.

Dig them up? Level off earth & use turf.

Thanks I've tried digging most the plants out but these large weeds quite seeming to want to come back over and over and I didn't want to seed the borders with this happening - yet these crazy huge weeds won't stop coming back :-(

What are these crazy huge weeds? Possibly someone with a bit more knowledge can help.

Spray with glyphosate, and give it 4 weeks to kill the root systems of the plants and weeds. Then you want to dig up the plants, and get out the larger roots. Digging out shrubs can be 'fun' depending on the species. Some such as rose will regrow from any length of root you leave in the soil. Other won't.

Cover it with black plastic, or old carpet . This will kill off everything- though it takes a while. once clear, you have to turf or put grass seed down. , mowing will get rid of tall weeds that continue- if they do.' Round up 'weed killer, painted on leaves will kill any remnant also. A good lawn feed and weed killer, also works. It really thickens up the grass and weeds grow funnily- twisted , then die. Theres lots of ways really. I have returfed areas by clearing, then digging up clumps of grass growing in the wrong places and replanting them in the new area. Its amazing how quickly yhey spread to fill in the whole area. It can be a bit bumpy for a while, but it saves money if that is important. good luck joanna

Black plastic wont kill everything off.

Some smaller weaker weeds will die but the stronger ones will just lay dormant.

Take the plastic up after 6 months and you will find weak straggly weeds, But plenty of roots just wating for some sunlight to restore them.

Its a quick way to weaken the majority of them, But be prepared for the dormant ones to spring to life. Dig them up or weedkill them.
