Hi folks, I'm a single mum with 2 teens and was working 16 hours but lost one of my clients yesterday! Now will only be working 12 hours a week!
Question, can I claim JSA as income per week will drop to 71.40!
Also will the run on of 4 weeks wtc affect any benefits?
Thanks for any advice xx

you could claim JSA, but you wont receive any payment as your income is roughly the same amount.
you would get your NI contribution paid though,
if you get CTC, then your payment should increase slightly.
also the same with HB/CTB0 -
Thanks so much for your quick response

Before you notify tax credits of a change of circumstances won't you be spending the 4 hours a week marketing etc for new clients?
Many people don't realise that the 16 hours (in your case) can include hours connected with their employement such as marketing etc.
Have a look at this link to see the kind of thing I am talking about.

PS Should add that it may not apply in your case but just thought I'd post to see if it did!0 -

Why not just do what proper self employed people do and look for more custom?
You can only claim income based JSA so any tax credits will affect what you get as will your income. In short, far easier to stay as you are.0
