Focus /heater knob -not working

Ford Focus 2006. hot/cold heater control was stiff-then clunked- now can't get it to blow warm. fan still working. Is there some plastic clip or something behing the control ? Is is best to remove radio to get to it- Any help/advice appreciated.

they are cable operated, remove the stereo and unscrew heater panel, possibly the clip for the cable has snapped.0
