But if the headroom is acceptable, then the floor would be raised on sleeper walls with dpc on, no other dpc is needed, and a step up or down is always best to avoid if at all possible
If the garage is integral ( part of the existing house) then usually building control is not required. I actually went through building control, paying the fees and having drawings done, only to find when I requested a visit before enclosing floor and walls, that they did not want to know.
I formed a new dwarf wall level with the new floor to allow the french doors to sit on, with a new external step as well
Try and do as much of the works in the garage as possible, Before knocking through to the house, much cleaner and less disruption.0 -
Wouldn't it have to have dpc when converting anyway to meet building regs? The link that ditwhynot posted mentioned damp proof membrane.
Yes, it would, that was my point, many ignore this and don't include any form or damp course, assuming it's already there.
Assumption again it's as simple as dpc membrane under all timber used to raise the floor. The big advantage in this situ is that as packers can be used to support the new raised joists, then they can be much lighter timbers, 4 x 2 probably most economical.
Is your garage floor lower as I suggested it would be??I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Yes it's lower than the floors in rest of the house if that's what you mean.0
