Some Questions Re. Paypal

Hi all :) I've just bought a large, quite-expensive, collection-only item on ebay. The seller asked that I pay by paypal and asked for payment asap.

Anyhow, collection is to be arranged for sometime next weekend which was no problem, but.. on paypal the payment is listed as unclaimed and the seller is unregistered. I paid via ebay checkout.

When I saw this, I cancelled the payment thinking it was going to some random email account or something? I explained this to the seller.

If I send to this address, which is unregistered and has to be claimed am I protected if they don't get back in touch with me even, or if there are any problems with the item? :s

The seller is new-ish so is this something that maybe happens often? (So I'm probably over reacting.) Should I ask whether I can pay by paypal on day of collection which I thought I would be, or even cash?

  • they sound like they are a newbie on ebay....to claim the money they have to verify their account with the bank that takes a few days....you should have left it. you can try paying again. if your picking it up from them, then tell them you'll pay them cash which is better for them because paypal charge fees HTH

would definatly go for the cash on delievery option, I guess they were trying to protect themselves by going for paypal, so they know the item is paid for and been collected, its a devil and deep blue sea one, hope you get it sorted, x

For an Ebay item it is safer for you having paid by Paypal, you can claim money back if anything goes wrong with the sale. Make sure the Ebay item is linked to your Paypal payment though, it sounds as though it may not be from your initial post.

If you are going to pay cash, make sure you cancel the Paypal transaction and get the money back in your account before going ahead.

Payments usually show as unclaimed if the seller has mistyped their paypal email address on th elisting.

As RFW says make sure you cancel and reclaim your money before doing anything else.
