I don't really know anything about fridge-freezers but ours packed up last week. the freezer completely defrosted and the fridge kept trying to work and not doing a very good job. Thankfully still under a 6 month guarantee (we bought reconditioned as we couldn't afford new without taking out credit) so we got it fixed for free; it needed a new compressor.
Maybe yours has the same problem?

You would have thought that if the freezer keeps things "chilled" then at least it *is* cooling, so hopefully it's not to the extend of Pruney's problem! Sorry, no can help, but it's worth calling someone (who doesn't charge a call out fee or a fee for a quote) and ask them what they think is wrong with it... That way, you may be able to get it sorted yourself with minimum disruption and cost.

(I know it's not fair to call people out to give quotes that you don't intend to take, but what options are there? Does anyone provide a "We'll tell you what's wrong" for a nominal fee? - No, they'll give you a quote which is 9 times out of ten more than a new one will cost - they sting you for anything they can! - Sorry if this offends, personal opinion and all.).

Hi Aubs, for domestic appliance we do actually offer that service on my site. ;)

Most good repairers will give you a fair idea wherever possible over the phone, but they won't call for free generally. Good repairers don't run about for nothing, bad ones often do. ;)

As to the Daewoo, well they rank right up there with their cousins, Samsung and LG, who's customer service and support is appalling on major appliances. Information on them is, shall we say, a little spartan.

It's possibly a thermistor, PCB or compressor given the age of the machine but I'd need a lot more information on what machine it is as well as access to some tech on it, which I can probably get a limited amount of.
