Just have a look at some websites, they will tell what cover there is.

Basic cover is cancellation, repatriation, missing flights, etc. Loss of money.
Dont forget, if youj have insurance elswhere for gadgets/etc. in home contents as items away from the home then you wont need that included in your travel insurance.

Extra cover is for like ~Winter Sports.

Just have a look at some websites. AA is good and will list what you are covered for.

Personally, I like to actually talk to someone, so I ring them.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Thanks, i have looked at a few, but still :S

But i do want my gadgets to be insurance (iPhone, iPad) because wouldnt want my family to have to claim on the home insurance which pushes the premiums up for that.

Also what dates do i get cover for? 1 day before & after my flights or the exact dates?

For a single trip you need to give the dates you depart and arrive back. For an annual policy you need the insurance to start as soon as you take it out. You should take out insurance as soon as the trip is booked so that you are covered for cancellation.

There is a basic outline of what you should look for HERE

Yes, I agree, you should take out your insurance as soon as you book your holiday.

So many people come on here and say they have broken their arm/leg/neck but havent booked their insurance, they were just about too. And obviously they are going to lose the whole cost of the holiday.

You should check your parents contents policy to see whether your gadgets are covered anyway. If they are, and you lose something, you will be asked by travel insurance if they are covered elsewhere, you would have to answer 'yes' then the travel ins. would only pay you half, telling you to claim the other half elsewhere, then you have 2 excesses to pay. You gotta be savvy.

Careful, you would make one claim and they would seek a recovery from the other insurers. There would only be one excess.

In fact, was there not something recent about policies not contributing?

I stand corrected, thanks for the clarification.

  • If you are going to USA - make sure the medical part of the cover is adequate.
It would cost you many many thousands of pounds should you have a serious accident over there.

Who do you bank with? Some banks give ins in their perks, but sometimes just for Europe so you have to upgrade it.
