so we have dug out a lawn ready to lay a patio and have a huge mound of soil. any ideas of who will take this away for me.
I did post on freecycle but no response there, unless i smuggle it in barrow loads to the nearest wood i fear im stuck with it:o
having just thoughtlessy told my daughter to clear a space for the patio i thought i could maybe use soil for a raised bed, now seeing the vast pile i realise i have underestimated how much soil is there:(
so really i need advise on where to send it or who may need it, im in the west midlands if that helps:o

Trouble is the West Midlands covers a massive area something like Stoke on Trent down to Gloucester.....your town might narrow it down a bit so someone on here might take it off you?
Or get a skip though they are expensive.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Dig a hole and put it in it?
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

I remember seeing Steve McQueen had the same problem in Escape from Colditz. They shoved it down their pants and walked up and down the road to let it out.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Love the shove it down your pants idea :rotfl: I think someone may suss the huge lumps of turf hanging out my jeans, that would get funny looks:eek::rotfl:
so long as they will take it in a skip at least thats a plan. I did wonder where soil goes to, i know you can buy top soil so there must be a demand somewhere...
Im in south birmingham B31, we do have allotments here so did hope someone may want some for raised beds or something, its full of worms so quite healthy soil, just wasted in my garden as need to patio an area next to where aviary is going so its flat and i can sit out and watch the birds, well thats the plan.
on a good note, i did manage to use some soil to make a raised border/bed running next to path but that only used a bit. I still have barrow loads left:o***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0 -
Are you near any of these, they may come and take it off your hands.

Yes thankyou sam, the northfield one is about 7 minutes walk from my house. Its gated though for keyholders so i think id have to pop in to ask when gates are open x I did fancy an allotment myself but because i had a hip replacement in febuary ive had limited capability up till now, hopefully next year i will be able to plant a few veg in my raised bed. or just on top of the huge mound if i cant shift it:rotfl:***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0

Our local tip will take soil. You fill buckets - I've got 7 - and take it down in the car and dump it in a big skip along with rubble. There is a limit, but they are not strict. Perhaps your tip does the same?Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

Thanks Leif, problem is i dont have a car. I will have a look at the council site though and see how they recommend getting rid of it, they take green waste and household stuff but sure soil isnt included. they may have a chargable service though.
i did get an email off freecycle but the user name was 13 something to do with devil and his email was sniperman or somat.... i fear he may need soil for an underhand (or body underground) motive:eek::rotfl:***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0 -
2 replys on free cycle so fingers crossed they do come for it :T***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0

A ridiculous idea, but one I used to get rid of a small heap of topsoil (5 wheelbarrow loads...). I found all my spare cuttings and plants I did not want, planted them up in the largest spare plastic pots using up all the topsoil, then I took them to the local Animal Shelter, which sold them and made about fifty quid. (Catmint was very popular!).
As you don't have a car, you'd have to stick them outside your house with an "honesty box", but if people are doing you a favour, who cares if they don't pay you? Don't tell me you haven't any spare flower pots - we all have hundreds of spares on this forum...
Mind you, fingers crossed for your Freecyclers... that'd be a darn sight easier!0
