  • Are you sure you have had your lightbulb moment and a DMP is really for you?

    Why do you say that?
  • Probably because you just took out a large Wonga loan while in the process of entering a DMP... however we don't know your full circumstances so being judgemental isn't going to help :) Once you enter into the DMP, you will need to make sure you can live on your income without incurring any more debts or taking out any credit, as doing so could mean that CCCS end your DMP.

I totally understand where OP is going with this. I got to the `end of my tether' & filled out the CCCS form online as a result of current & future debts. This month I have college fees, car tax, MOT and insurance to fund - three of the four will need to come out of either a credit card or bank overdraft - no other access to money (I can fund the insurance out of this Fridays wages leaving no money for food or petrol).
Should I open a basic bank account prior to completing the necessary paperwork for CCCS debt management plan?
  • Thank you Mildredalien. I needed the extra wonga loan to pay my rent as I get paid 4 weekly but my rent comes out monthly. When I speak to CCCS on Monday I will tell them about this loan and hopefully get it added to the DMP otherwise I would have to do the same thing again next month which obviously wouldn't be allowed.

Once the DMP is set up I will be fine as I have worked out a budget I can live on.

Rita-Rabbit I would suggest opening a basic bank account asap, I applied for a Natwest one online and I should have the account details by tomorrow then hopefully I can get my wages paid into that and start my new budget.

Can someone post links for basic bank accounts so I can apply online - I am paid hourly (mon-fri - so time spent in branch is less money earned) & so would like to get cracking on my application today.
As I understand it has to be a bank I haven't already got previous with the best options for me are:
    First Direct
    Co-op
    or Citibank

    Definite no-no are Santandar/Natwest/Barclays

grr the link won't work for Citibank so just type in the address.
:) Been here for a long time and don't often post

Not being judgemental and it was a genuine question.

There does not seem to be any comprehension on the OP's part re what a DMP is really about and what you can and can't do. I think a good chat with CCCS is required.

Apologies if I caused offence but it was a genuine question, good luck Fay_elizabeth and please let us know how you get on :)

  • Ok. I followed your advice and phoned CCCS today and talked through whether I was doing the right thing. I want nothing more than a fresh start with no credit. The lady on the phone actually said she thinks I'd be better off with a debt relief order and is sending me a pack for that.
