CCCS - A few questions

Hi everyone,

A couple of days ago I filled out a form on the CCCS website to see if a DMP would be suitable for my partner and I. We live on a low wages and we both have quite a lot of credit card debt.

I got my letter through the post from them today with a repayment budget however I filled the online form in for my partner and myself and now my partner has said he'd rather do his separately (incase we split up etc) so do you know if there's anyway I can change it to just my debt? Or should I fill in a whole new application?

Also I was wondering, once the DMP is in place with all your creditors are you still able to use those accounts? e.g spend on a credit card thats half way paid off or use some of your overdraft?

Thanks all.

I would give them a ring and ask.

You enter into an agreement that you will not take out any more credit while you are on your DMP so no you will not be able to use credit cards or apply for new ones either.

You need to be completely honest with them about your income and expenses and see if this is really the way to go as it seems you have not quite grasped that this is the end of credit for you until all of your debt is paid back.

After all this is the reason you are in a mess at the moment because of credit cards I would think long and hard about whether you have truly understood what you are about to embark upon.

    Answer to your question.

No you can't use any credit at all.

No overdraft - you have to change bank accounts.

    Credit cards are closed.

You don't want anymore credit anyway, do you?

  • I do understand it, its just that I currently live in my overdraft, my limit is -£2100 and at the moment I'm at -£2000. I get paid next Friday around £750 into the same account. Does this mean I won't be able to use any of the £750 of my wages or should I just open a new account fresh for my wages to go in?
  • You need to open a new account for your pay to go into. :)

yes you open a new account, with a bank unconnected to your debts, and start afresh. Do this ASAP.

The overdraft just becomes another debt.

  • Thanks everyone,

Do you think it would be ok to get the basic bank account from Barclays? Even though I already have a credit card and current account with them?

NO. The basic bank account needs to be at another bank totally.

Try Natwest Basic or Lloyds Tsb do a basic account as do Co-op (Cashminder). It needs to be done asap, before your wages go in.Also you need to bear in mind that if you sign the agreement with the CCCS you are agreeing you will not take on any more credit.

You are not allowed to have an overdraft while on a DMP either so the sooner you get a new bank account where you have no other debt the better, that way when your wages get paid in you will have enough to pay CCCS and live a reasonable life too.

  • Thanks for your help guys, I have opened a basic bank account with Natwest. I think I'm going to have to re-do my DMP on Monday when CCCS phone me back because I didn't include a rather large wonga loan I just had to take out. :(
