    I never thought of phoning the Inland Revenue, so will give them a ring to see what I'd be better off doing. Thanks for that suggestion.

    I fet 80% of my childcare costs covered with the Childcare element of WTC and a bit of CTC.

    BTW, Crispeater - how come you can claim HB and Council Tax Bens? Do you work very few hours? Sorry I'm being really nosey, but just wondering!

    i work 20hours a week over 3 days. my house is private rented (landlord is my mother!) so of course because its rented i can claim HB ;) its not nosey its just inquisitive as i say
    It only seems kinky the first time.. :A

    Oh right, I see. Have to say that's one bad thing about having a mortgage - you aren't allowed to claim HB. Bummer.

    I'm just surprised that its doesn't even cover her childcare.
    The government are susposed to help single parents back to work, they are always promoting it.
    There are loads of single parents only too happy to raise their children from the cradle to adulthood on the DSS.
    If mothers want better & want to work, they need help while their children are young.

    I only work 18 hrs, earn just under £8k p/a, rent my house, have a child in nursery, 2 at school, but I don't get hb or ct benefit!!

    They do get help - upto 80% child care paid.
