Tesco Phone + 18185 ?

Currently looking into phone & broadband for my new flat, and Tesco seem to be doing a very cheap offer - £2.50 a month broadband for 12 months, when you take out their £13.75-a-month phone line.
I've had a look around to see whether Tesco allow 18185 calls on their home phone, but can't find anything conclusive.
Anyone currently using 18185 with Tesco Homephone?
Or anyone else in the know?

I am also not getting far with this one. 18185 is critical because we make Thai calls. I rang Tesco as I like the cost of their phone/BB bundle - he said you can not use it! Anyone know about this? Is the risk of leaving BT just too much if you are a 18185 addict? Thanks in anticipation.0

If you cant use indirect access via 18185,and only BT have to allow it.You can still use 18185 via their 0808 freephone number at same price to call Thailand.
See: http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php
The only big difference using the alternative access numbers is you dont benefit from the 5p fixed UK Call to 01/02/03 numbers. Its 5p connection and 1p a minute still miles cheaper then Tesco. However the Tesco deal comes with inclusive evening and weekend calls to these numbers.
Have you checked to see if you can get the offer its only available on unbundled exchanges.Which probaly means 18185 indirect will be barred.0 -
Thanks for reply - We currently have B.T. 'Any time' calls and use 18185 only for Thai calls and say UK mobiles. So I would go for Any time from Tesco for example. But I am unclear as to the part of your message relating to the unbundled bit. Do I presume I would have to ring the 08... number for connections to 18185?0

I too spent ages trying to get a definitive answer to this when looking to move phone (BT) & BB (MAD) to either Tesco or Plusnet. Finally found a friend of a friend who is on tesco and they tried using 18185 for me. 18185 is BLOCKED on tesco so it is reasonable to assume other carriers are.
In the end I opted to go with Plusnet (there's only a few pence difference) and although there were a couple of minor issues at the time of moving the BB over the CS staff were very good and dealt with it all swiftly and professionally. Phone transfer happened without issue.
At the time of writing YOU CAN access 18185 on Plusnet.0 -
I think, from the secondary OP (lympus48)'s point of view, that, regardless of whether Tesco blocks the use of the 18185 prefix or not (it appears they do), his calls to Thailand would cost exactly the same using 18185's Freephone gateway number, 0808 1 703 703 (4p connection + 1½p/minute).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Thanks for help - food for thought - incidentally I looked into Utility Warehouse earlier today for a big bundle of energy / phone/ BB but ran a mile following some comments and its not near the top on energy comparison. Do we know of people using 0808 number on Tesco?0

Only BT are obliged to provide indirect Access (1xxx access, such as 18185). Most indirect access providers also have 0800/0808 and 02 access numbers for customers that are not on BT and for mobile access. Although these access numbers are charged in the normal way (i.e. 0800/0808 free and 02 at UK rate), there is nothing to stop the service provider blocking calls to these access numbers. It is unlikely to happen unless there is excessive usage. To the OP wishing to call Thailand, there are many options you can use such as Instant dial companies where you can call for 1p/min plus call set up fee.0

I have decided to go to Tesco as there's a special offer too for their own mobile users. I shall report back in some time with my experience of the whole bundle etc., Thanks for help.0
