If he can't cut meat - can he prepare a meal from scratch for himself? If not then he'd definitely be eligible for Low Rate Care DLANo longer using this account for new posts from 20130

See if you can persuade them to apply at least for a blue badge (means road tax fee exempt). It made a difference to my Mum and means she can still got to the shops without having to park miles away.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

He can prepare a meal from scratch though mum does most of it. He can just about open a tin or make a boiled egg (though if mum's around she scoops it into a dish for him.
I don't think they've ever looked into a disability car, frankly I don't think they want to admit that the need it or a blue badge.

Hi Catt
You did exactly the right thing, don't stress.
There is nothing stopping you from first paying down your own stuff, then starting to overpay the car loan to get rid of it earlier is there? Your mum will keep paying you back until the term of the loan, so you get an extra income at the end.
In march, we put a car on finance for ourselves, regardless of our existing debt commitments, which at the time felt like a total betrayal of my LBM - but in the cold light of day, it was the right thing to do. We've saved £30 a month in insurance, £80 a month in petrol, £10 a month in AA cover, £5 a month in tax, and given we'd spent £1000 on our old car in 3 months, removed the biggest reason for our debts not reducing. The savings cover 90% of the car payments, and our debts are back to going down again.
Sometimes you have to do something that goes against what you believe in one way because you have do something else you believe in the other direction.
I think you did good.

Thanks hun
I'm coming round to not thinking of it as 'my' debt as such. I'll still go all out to clear my remainding bit, then I will be debt free and can help Mum out as you suggest, then just have an income from it.
Thanks to everyone. Feeling much better! :A

Have a look in Homebase (or anywhere that stock JML), they do a one handed car opener. Mum has one of these, means she doesn't have to ask my Dad to help her. They're not expensive or fiddly to use. But might make your Dad feel a bit more independent.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. Hi again Catt, now you have confirmed you would have no problem paying the debt if your mother can't,then I would say,you have done the right thing.I do however think you could have bought a brand new car for the same money and not had to worry about repairs for a few years, but I'm sure you probably got a nicer car!
All the best, hope things work out for you all

The trouble is livinginhope Mum can only drive an automatic so it restricts what we can buy - and she would NEVER have a new car as we know the immediate depreciation. This car has 10k miles (3years old) and she doesn't do more than 5k a year, so should be good.
