Hi,
my friend has a camper, and had 3 claims against him last year, which has made his insurance company refuse to cover him - awful year etc etc dad died etc etc so yes he was at fault but still needs cover - he's been quoted £3000 for his van, fully comp. 3rd party is no less.
Any help to reduce this horrendous bill please? £3k is utterly out of reach - like most of us he's not rich, any ideas? Im a member of the caravan club and this might help, if we can find a way. Everyone's either refused him - he has NO convictions, btw, so its all a panic. His van's insured until end of next week...aarrgghh!!

Are the claims for break-ins? If so, where is he keeping it? It might be cheaper to pay to store it on a registered gold secure site, offsetting the cost of that against the insurance (essentially £500 a year to store it but the insurance drops to £2000 per year saving £500)

no - the claims were for prangs - and there were two in the last 12 months, 3 in the last 5 years. Unbelieveable. He just asked his insurance company why they allowed the claims to go through without taking any information from him and they said they didnt always do this...so is this a licence to print money by any other name?0

Hmm well Caravan Club/Camping and Caravan Club (I think it's the latter) do a manoeuvring course, maybe it'll help with the accidents and he'll get some money off for havign some form of training. They might have deals with insurers to offer it although it's a bit of a longer term thing.
Where has he tried so far? I'd be getting a club magazine and looking for some decent specialist brokers.

To be honest, I think he's going to have a hard time getting it down any lower.
To have 2 prangs in the last 12 months represents and extremely high liability - if I was an underwriter I'd be running away screaming.
I think he'll either have to swallow the costs, or alternatively if possible he could settle the cost of the accidents with his previous insurer (if they were quite low cost) which would mean the insurer didn't pay out in effect, and these could be declared as non-fault.
Some insurers allow this, mine do (Adrian Flux) although it does vary.
Ultimately though, he's going to have to accept that his insurance is going to be very, very expensive for a long time.0 -
I use https://securemotorhomeinsurance.com/motorhome/quote/mhf/pccv/driverdetails.page?PolicyType=PCCV&CompanyName=motorhome&brandName=mhf&affinity=MHFACT&subagent=MHFACT
They ask minimal questions and seem to cover quite well.
Go Compare offer a MH comparison service now too. http://www.gocompare.com/motorhome-insurance/
