New relaxed planning permission Sept 2012

Does anyone know when the new relaxed planning permission measures announced yesterday will come into effect?
Nothing seems to be up on the web and it would be useful to know as I need to submit plans - if I can save money, so much the better! Many thanks:T

I presume legislation will need to be passed so it may take some time, months at a minimum would be my guess.0

Errr... a bit longer than that:
At present they have only announced the intention to 'consult'. Then it will need leglislation....0 -
Don't get your hopes up just yet.
The actual planning permission bit might become easier but nothing I've yet seen even hints that building regs will no longer be required or be less stringently applied. Building regulations applications themselves often require plans to be submitted and costs hundreds of pounds for even a small extension.
Nor, apparently, will the Party Wall Act provisions be abolished or relaxed and if you have mean spirited neighbours, the fees for up to three separate surveyors can often come to more than the cost of the materials for the build itself!
Call me a cynic if you like but all this grand speechifying sounds ill thought out and farcical to me!0 -
I though that for extensions of up to a certain size, one story, a certain distance of more from the rear boundary. planning permission was not needed, and that the intention is to extend the allowance.paddy's_mum wrote: »Call me a cynic if you like but all this grand speechifying sounds ill thought out and farcical to me!
It strikes me as bloody awful frankly. It means someone would be able to build a big extension blocking out the sun to someones garden, reducing the value, for a limited period only. I only hope this stupid law does not pass. It surely would only stimulate the economy a bit, but would bring misery to many.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -
Hopefully this next week will bring some news and I hadn't considered the situation of people abusing the planning laws. I probably have jumped the gun and hadn't realised there was consultation so I think I'll bite the bullet and get the planning permission as I don't think that I will be causing any conflict with any of the neighbours. Cheers!0

The affect on neighbouring property values isn't taken into account when a planning application is considered. However, I agree with what you are saying.0 -

Sure, but they take into account whether or not it will reduce the neighbours privacy or light, for example, and they impact value.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0
