I'm intrigued as to why they would have had to do anywork that caused a head gasket to be replaced in the first place. This would never normally be part of any servicing item.

I think you need to investigate the reason further as there may be other implications that could possibly not have manifested themselves yet. But, wait till after they've done the remedial work before asking awkward questions - and don't be fobbed off. Post the answer(s) here for advice if you're not sure about them.

    Good luck.

During the service, they apparently put the 'wrong spark plugs' in and found out there was a problem when they tried to start it. Apparently, as a result, they stripped the engine down then rebuilt it, putting a new head gasket in as part of the process.

If that is the case, the work carried out by them should be guaranteed and it should last longer than 2000 miles if the work was done properly. The thing is would you want these cowboys to touch it again?

Absolutely right. Luckily, I couldn't get in touch with the original garage on Saturday so the other garage is now fitting the new engine, with the original garage picking up the tab as they had guaranteed the original work.

It means the new guarantee will be with the new garage but I'm good with that...

    Cheers
