Nationwide Select CC

Hi,

I had my gold cc changed to a select cc from nationwide and it says I get cashback if I put a certain amount in my nationwide current account each month. Now I have not put a monthly amount in my nationwide current account as I switched to santander.

So it shows online that I seem to be getting a cashback but surely this shouldn't happen as I haven't put a monthly amount in my current account?

So should I let nationwide know i am not using the current account and thus shouldn't be getting the cashback? I'm not bothered about not getting the cashback as it's not a huge amount or anything.

  • I would say nothing. They seem a little loose in the application of their own criteria. I was upgraded from Gold to Select despite not meeting their criteria. (Though I do now.)

I recall seeing somewhere that they would write to you in advance of you failing to meet the conditions. Anyway until you've actually got the cash, I suppose they could always decide not to give it to you.
  • Thanks chattychappy, I'll leave it and see if I get a letter although its been like 8months lol. I have got a letter for my current account saying there cancelling the free travel insurance you get because I haven't used the account. So they are aware of me not using the account, I guess they don't talk to their CC side lol.

I don't think the card is automatically terminated, rather that the rewards part of it stops working, so you'll get cash back for the months when you were running your Flex account, but not for the months afterwards. Since the rewards are only paid annually, this is easy to do.
  • Ok that's good, thanks.

If you've got money elsewhere, have you tried sending say £750 in over the period of a month (It could be 7 standing orders of £108 each), and then sending the money back to your main account the next day?

I've been told this is allowed

many of us simply 'cycle' money between several current a/cs to meet the 750 per month criteria and so gain the benefits of free travel insurance and the 0% foreign fee on purchases in europe
