Low energy Halogen Spots

Hi
I was wondering about using low energy MR16 LED lamps (1.8W) and was wondering if anyone can help me out.
I have been looking for information regarding their brightness, ie how do they compare to a normal 20-50W MR16.
Also, several sites have mentioned that they require LED drivers/converters, which I have been unable to find anywhere. My local lighting specialist shop didn't even stock the bulbs and the manager just plonked a 12V DC supply on the counter when I asked about the driver.
If anyone can help I'll be really grateful.
