Chimney sweep cost north London

Hi -

I need to get my chimney swept - can anyone give me an indication of the costs I can expect? The first quote I have received is £70, Im just waiting for some more quotes to come in...

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

I used someone from St Albans, is that too far from you? I paid £30 from memory.

Thanks Silvercar - no that's only a few miles. Would you mind PM'ing me the details if you still have them please?

I ended up paying £50 and was very happy with the serviceI got. I got 6 quotes ranging from £50-£90.

Just as a matter of interest, is it not a straigtforward job to do it yourself, if need be, by hiring rods and brush.

As a kid I remember my father doing it, while my mum and I held an old sheet, with a small hole in the middle around the fireplace.

i'm not sure i'd want to diy, pay for the hire of rods etc & end up with soot all over the carpet & room, sounds like £50 well spent to me
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I figure it's pretty relevant. If I'm moving into a new property and the previous owners haven't used the fireplaces, is a simple sweep enough to get it into working condition again?
