Autotrader Scams. Have you come across any lately?

Options
I reported a couple of dodgy adverts on autotrader, They removed them quickly and thought thats good.

One vehicle is back already and it shows up in the shortlist if you try and view the original advert. Thats not clever is it.

I had a quick search and found more than a couple of obviously dodgy adverts. Thats without phoning.

A couple i suspect but would need a phonecall to prove either way. I dont think a 1am call would go down well if it were genuine.

How many private sellers have 4 cars listed and all over 150 miles away from the phone number listed in the advert?
And a please contact using the email address, Please dont call.

Have you found any and do you report them?

The daughter of a 76yr old resident phoned me in May regarding one, and I forwarded it onto the dealer to sort out, who hadn't noticed.

I've already seen one of our old fleet cars (The original car has 300k-odd miles and is 6 years old) dressed to look like a 2yr old model with 26,000 miles.

This is in spite of being in full company signwriting in the photos, including the company phone number. Needless to say, a few words with Autotrader and it was taken down. They claimed that a plate starting 'EK55' and having 'supplied by Trans City Skoda' clearly on the back of the car makes it a 2010 ('59) car from Scotland, especially with an 0203 phone number on it

A sharp eyed bloke who bought one from us and was looking for a car for his wife (most get replaced at 3 with 120k-ish miles) noticed this, as all cars are fully decommissioned before they leave the back of the office. They wanted £9,000 by UKash for it, too (we sold the car the week before for £1,500)

May the buyer beware in a 'private' sale!

...... and when buying from a dealer. Few dealers will clock a car but most will fleece a gullible punter.

I dont think we've ever done either. I'll quite openly state mileage, service records, MoT records (if it's come off some areas of the fleet, as some of our cars are modified at our expense), and the latter of the brackets, but certainly nothing else.

The sheer volume we're purchasing the cars in means that we flog them cheap at the end of it. I see about 40 cars with partly pulled off signwriting and about 20 brand new cars with no registration numbers (we operate a vehicle leasing company for them, so trade plates and self-registration, as they come direct from Ford UK or Jaguar/Land Rover UK, not through any dealer network)

That's all there is to say really....
