Your wages are incredibly low, particularly given that you live somewhere expensive.

I don't think the answer is to go on the dole. The dole has no potential for future improvement in your earnings. You're effectively closing off future potential if you do that.

The answer is to get a new job that pays more, if at all possible.

i agree that the dole is not the answer long term but short term it will give the op some breathing space to sort out their postion and mybe get re trained so they can get a higher paid job long term

I agree with the posters above - your problem isn't your outgoings, it's your incomings - in an area where you're paying £600 rent / month, it should be pretty easy to earn £800+/month, even if it's working nights in a supermarket etc.

Your daughter should be old enough to look after herself...

I'd also talk to her and see if she could afford to give anything extra. Will she be working full time over the summer?

When I'm working full time I'm quite happy to give my parents £200/month...

    TheAble,

A Good suggestion but one problem, more hours would probably = more child care costs + less tax credits = less real money.

Child care costs in this case are non-applicable as the OPs daughter is about to go to college, so child care not required.

Once she has left I would have thought tax credits will stop. Child tax as the OP says is stopping in May. Plus that £30 that the daughter pays will be lost too.

OP - can you move to a place with cheaper rent? Or if rent is expensive round you, how about another part of the country? Look on rightmove.co.uk, I would say on your budget you should aim to pay £350 per month max.

Or even better, perhaps you could consider a flat share? See https://www.clickflatshare.co.uk, you can often get a room in a shared flat with a couple of others for around £50/week plus bills.

Seriously, going on the dole is NOT the answer to your problems, it'll just get you deeper in them.

I can fully understand you not wanting to pack in your job - its not always about the money anyway, its about social interaction, satisfaction, etc.

My suggestion was based purely on the low income versus the outgoings - which are far from extravagant!!!!

I think looking into possibilities around other working options that could increase your earnings is another tac to take. Have you even asked about a payrise? My policy is - you don't ask, you don't get!

    Good luck!

    Thanks everyone for your replies.
Yes i am depressed but i think i will make things worse by sitting at home all day.
Thanks Claire. I need to contact payplan again as all i have had sdo far is all the paper work and letter suggestions. A lovely message though and i may well contact you :-)
As for a better paid job if i could i would have done so before now. There is only limited things i can do due to lack of experiance etc. Round here well paid work is impossible to come by unless your in civil service or highly trained. I live by the seaside and work tends to be seasonal and limited to the hospitality industry (yuck) I would probably also have to pay all of my rent (which i am doing now but i am still hoping that the council look into my appeal. That would mean me having to earn more than £250+ extra a week.
One thing... overnight things have got serious, all my cards have been stopped including my bank cards (switch) i now have access to NO money at all! Cried all the way to work, and all round work then booked tomorrow off and will have to see either citizens advice or face the bank. Im worried sick now. I have 45p and thats all. Little food and no money to travel to work. I'm at my wits end now. The council tax is due tomorrow and my rent next week. Oh god when will this end...
Can i just add, the money i put in my SOA for food etc was for one week and not one month . whoops. I also didn't include things such as travel to work nor elec/gas of about £35+ a month.
Thanks again everyone for all your help and kind words. means sooo much to me right now. things have never been blacker

No not Weymouth lol. i think all resorts suffer from this type of thing
Moving...well i would love too, but how exactly do i pay removal costs, my CR is so bad no agency will take me on which means i have to look at local newspapers for private landlords and thats impossible to do from a distance, but if i stay in the area even crappy flats ( i had one before, above a shop and it was hell) are over £100 pw.
My daughter has agreed to up her rent money though only by a little. At the mo she pays out a lot of things that i would have to cover. She buys some food each week and all her toiletries/clothes (she buys some clothes for me too and pays for my haircuts)
I have just had a payrise and an increase in hours but we're talking little or no difference. I work in the care sector and asking for an increase will get me no-where. Why would they pay me extra when everyone else gets Min wage?
A second job won't help as i just lose it in benefits (back to the benefit trap) Trapped by minimum wages and benefits...
