I would guess your quickest way is train to Paddington then tube. Buying tickets each day will cost you £18.10 peak £10.80 off peak for a one day travelcard to zones 1-6. First off peak train is 0932 from Slough; any train at weekends.
You'd need to ask at Slough station about season ticket prices - normally they are based on 4 days peak travel for a weekly one so may not work out for you.
If you travel from zone 6 to zone 2 through zone 1 you need a ticket valid in zone 1.
Via Heathrow is going to be a lot slower. Whether it's any cheaper depends on the fare from Slough to Heathrow.

£12.50 peak £6.70 off peak.
The evening peak has a few (not many) restrictions on the use of an off-peak ticket that you'd need to watch out for. (They also apply to the off-peak travelcard). Basically you must use local trains, not intercity ones.0
