Is the car dealer responsible ?

I've only recently bought a second hand car from a dealer and paid for it with my credit card. There have been numerous problems with the car which have been fixed. My local garage have inspected the car and told me that the engine's from a scrap yard and not the original engine. This wasn't mentioned on the advert so obviously I didnt ask the question. Is there any way I can take the car back and claim for a refund ?

I believe a small thing like it has a different engine should of been disclosed to you so I would say yes. Also, as you paid by credit card, the CC co is equally liable.
A bit more info may help though such as make/mode/age/price paid/exact purchase date and the nature of the problems you have had so far.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
Thanks for the swift reply.
The car is a Renault Grand Scenic (54 plate) and was purchased from a dealer in Doncaster for just shy of £3000 on 31st July
There have been 4 faults so far which have all been fixed (although only one by the dealer). These occurred within the first 3 weeks of ownership. There is a week's lapse in between fixing the final fault as I was reluctant to authorise my garage to fix the fault as the dealer owner was on holiday. I'm going to phone the dealer tomorrow and request a refund but I fully expect to be rebuffed0 -
In some cars, having a replacement engine is a good thing (old jag v8s for example)... Get a compression test done if you're that worried. And if the engine has been properly reconditioned, whats the problem?0

If the engine was fitted properly then i dont see the problem. The engine maybe from a much newer car and outlast everything else.
You want to see the receipts for my car. Virtually everythings new.
Thats why i bought it. Anything that wears has been replaced.
What were the 4 faults?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
There's no service history with the car, despite the advert stating there was a full service history.
The faults, have been.
1. Water pump failure
2. Clutch sticking
3. Electrical fault
4. Yet another electrical fault.
If I'd have know it was a replacement engine then I would not have bought the car0 -

Probably why it had a new engine... Replacement engine probably had a much better past the engine you could have had.
And its French, of course it will have electrical faults.0 -
Can you find anyone on the renault forums with an 8 year old car thats not had electrical issues.
Sister just bought a megane. What a heap with the electrical system.
Pump failure and sticky clutch. Any 8 year old car can suffer from those issues.
I think your regretting your choice of car more than you were mis-sold.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
But you knew there was no service history when you bought it.0

"There have been numerous problems with the car which have been fixed." And your problem is caller?0

doesnt excuse advertising it as having a FSH.
if it had a new engine recently then if someone did do it properly would have changed the clutch CSC and turret.
electrical issues are common with renault.
from window motors, electronic stearing locks, EPS, coil packs, glow plug relays, crank sensor, water temp sensor, throttle body (vdo unit or stepper motor) throttle pedal, injectors.0
