I would like to say that as a newbie, I have always felt welcome. I don't get to post as much as I would like but I have never felt that I couldn't join in. I try my best to contribute as best I can and always research a glitch by reading back about the experiences of others on here so that I don't have to ask questions all the time. I try try to thank people when they have helped me, although again, maybe not as much as I should.

This thread has made such a difference to me and my family which means that we can get some nice things (like lovely shampoos) that we couldn't normally afford and I am greatful for everyone that contribute.

I can confirm the wine is still working as of 4pm today and don't buy the tinned SP potatoes as they do not show up on the receipt and can mess your number of comparable items up.

P.S - Can't wait to hear whether Tiger has had her cub yet!

    What a nice post :)

Think I will stick to cheese and poo shops. Cleaning didn't work so well as it seems the Duck Fresh discs are back up in price (two also didn't compare). These worked the other day and also for someone else I'm sure I read. Is it because it was just the one comparing that didn't add up? I got one sada cheap one and 5 expensive - should I have just got more cleaning stuff? My head is busted!

Anyway as I had to use a rather large APG I'm not complaining as I got stuff I was actually needing to make up the big amount. Have taken the other stuff out just to show the cleaning:

8 items on your bill qualify for comparisonASDALogoWhite.gifWaitrose+£0.51CheaperSignBlue.gif

    1 x ASDA cream cleaner £0.62 £0.54
    1 x Duck Fresh Discs Marine (6)£2.00 N/A
    1 x Duck Fresh Discs Alpine Air (6)£2.00 £3.49
    1 x Duck Fresh Discs Lavender (6)£2.00 N/A
    1 x Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner (300ml)£2.98 £0.53
    1 x Cif Stainless Steel Spray (500ml)£3.00 £0.53

Comparison total (compared products only)£13.33 £12.82

PS - ignore me I see where I went wrong - got 5 PLUS the cheap cleaning one. Or is that right anyway? I give up lol. Though still looks like the Duck stuff doesn't compare now? So just a warning to anyone who wants to buy some.

  • Nearlysorted, I am so sorry that you lost your old dog and that your new dog is so sad. Some dogs do fine as an only dog, but others really appreciate a canine companion.

I totally understand your concern about an older rescue dog and not knowing how the dog might react with your children, but this shouldn't be a problem so long as you go to a reputable rescue shelter that properly assesses the dogs behaviour around children.

I wouldn't recommend getting a rescue dog direct from an owner who is looking to rehome a dog as they may not be honest and just want to get rid of the dog :( BUT the last thing a reputable rescue wants is a dog not settling in its new home and "bouncing back."

Taking on any dog is a big commitment so I would really take your time and maybe go visit a few local shelters to get to know the dogs in their care. If you don't feel up to that at the moment then many shelters now have details of dogs that need homes on their websites.
You could even just call then and explain your situation and ask them to keep you details on file until a suitable dog comes in? You will need to take your kids and other dog so you can all meet the potential new dog and see how everyone gets along.

I adopted a dog aged 8 who is an absolute darling with children. She came into the shelter with 2 other dogs because the couple had got divorced.

If you want to search for local shelters in you area, this database is handy (scroll down until you find the county you need):
    http://www.veggies.org.uk/acd/europe/uk/rescue/rescue.htm

If you don't feel ready to take on another dog until your kids are older, then do you have any friends or family with a friendly dog that might be able to visit or go for walks with your dog?

Regarding the anal glands problem, you could try giving her shredded wheat, bran flakes or weetabix for her breakfast meal. These are high in fibre & will bulk up her stools which will in turn press against the glands and keep then healthy. (sorry if TMI all!)

Your dogs loss of appetite may have affected the consistency and frequency of her stool and can in turn affect the glands.

Give her some gentle hugs from me. x

By the way Hi everyone! :wave:I am new to this thread but not new to MSE and am normally only browsing on my phone so a bit fiddly to post much! Though I do hit the thanks button as much as possible.
I love the friendly nature of this thread and the fact that you help each other out. I have managed two successful shampoo shops a few days ago, so a big thank you to everyone who has posted details of their shops. I am now laid up recovering from wisdom tooth surgery (ouch!).

Bye for now (sorry for the long first post!:o) & Happy Shopping all!
    MM x

Edit: I just read through the posts after your post and see I am repeating what other's have already said! I am a bit slow with the the old typing lol! x

    Afternoon:D:D

Just quickly catching up after a quick flit to A's and before school run.

Wanted to thank everyone for their kind words and suggestions:A:A:A
We are not going to rush into getting another dog too soon, hopefully my mum will get a new dog soon, so that will be some company for her and a playmate for my girl without the responsibility of a new dog.
Also, thanks for the weetabix tip, I guess I will just have to go to A's (again:D)

Thank you everyone, you are all so kind:grouphug::grouphug:

Went to a different As today and found the Dairylea - but no pilgrims choice.

Neither of my stores had it so I got the more expensive Lake District one and that worked. ;)
