insurance companies?

  • I wasn't saying I would go with them, but I wouldn't just go by negative feed back, or I'd never use any of the big companies. The offer from Axa seems even better, so might go with them.Their reviews are even worse though.

    Who is E&L?
Ignore that, E&L are an insurance company I've never heard of.

If you did a bit off searching I'm sure you'd have found them .....

I've always suggested Axa is a good option. Having been stung by insurers withdrawing from the market, it makes sense to me to have a policy direct with the underwriters.

Someone was on the forum recently who challenged this, pointing out that Axa's market share had fallen recently and suggesting that it would be better to get a policy underwritten by RSA (Royal & Sun Alliance), such as John Lewis or Tescos.

Not sure I buy this argument, as no matter the quality of the underwriter, you're still exposed to the risk of the offering company withdrawing from the market.

And another vote for not going with AFI. When I was looking for insurance they were still underwritten by E&L so were a definite no-no, but apparently things haven't improved that much since they changed underwriter.

Oh, and it terms of Axa premiums, I had a policy last year, got the renewal through..and although it had gone up a bit, I could not find anywhere that beat the price for the same/comparable level of cover. Even a quote from Axa as a new customer came up the same (infact, 50p or so more expensive). That was after a year of no claims, but my experience with Direct Line, Sainsburys and M&S was that the premiums rose substantially more than I could find elsewhere even despite no claims
I'm expecting one policy to go up a bit next year as I've made a couple of claims now, but this year has already been "free" for me now as they've paid out as much as I'll have paid in, so I can take a bit of an increase for the peace of mind knowing she'll remain covered for her ongoing condition.

I am dreading Zara's reneval TBH... £48 per month now but she had the op this year and Argos paid out over 6k in total in one year.. plus they have changed the underwriter and George's reneval was veryyyyyyyyyyyyyy steep so dreading to think about Zara's.... sigh.... BUT she needs/I need that insurance so.. whatever it is.. will have to pay.

I've always been told by the administrators of the various policies that your claims history does not directly affect your premium increase. Not sure I believe them, mind :) .

Of course it would affect it indirectly, as your claims will presumably affect both the geographical and the breed components of the premium calculation.

Was there anything to differentiate George (aside from the op!) from the others? Different breed, significantly older, etc.

Nope, George and Fred are exactly the same age, same dustbin common cat breed (non pedigree) , both boys, just different colour.

2 girls again same age as George, same dustbin common non pedigree.

Another cat 4 years older than George.

All went up a bit but only George's one went nearly double.

Teddy is 4 years older than George and his
