Money Transfer Systems (Pingit, Paypal, O2 Wallet etc.)

I'm thinking of the pseudo accounts you have for systems like Barclays Pingit, O2 Wallet and the like - what is the point of them?
I've just spent four months waiting for O2 to set up my O2 Wallet account, and after more problems today I started wondering why I was bothering.
I had the old O2 Money pre-pay card, and used it as emergency funds if I was travelling abroad in case my wallet was lost or stolen (the card was kept elsewhere, obviously!), but the new scheme doesn't have a card by default, although you can pay extra for one, and is set up to draw and send money to bank accounts.
If I want to send someone money I can do it direct to their bank account without a fee, or if I want to buy something online I have my credit card with the protection that brings.
Apart from being rival systems to the likes of Paypal for sending small amounts, am I missing something?
I have managed to pair my Pingit account with my O2 Wallet account, so that could be interesting... Although O2 have managed to make that my default account, not my actual bank account, and apparently there's no way of changing the default account. Ho hum...

I am finding Pingit supprisingly good, its just handy when around friends, for getting/sending that few odd quid.
I have used it for lending mates the odd tenner or so, very quick and handy to have on the phone.
Kind of like a gadget that you dont think you will use but will miss if you ever lost it.0 -
Im having nothing but problems with it, I have virtual card and a physical card, but cant seem to use the virtual card anywhere. Seems to becoming a waste of time.
