private work for a coder

Hi all,

does anyone know of anywhere to pickup small software development projects? I am currently employed full time as a software developer, but with two small kids in full time childcare while we both work, I feel the pinch sometimes!

Ideally I would like to pickup small bits of work online for some extra pocket money :-) . I specialise in .net c#, javascript, mvc projects.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

    Our car club could do with a website job finishing off. Get in touch and we'll have a chat.
    Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
    Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

    I have no experience of it myself, but my first thought was: have you tried peopleperhour.com? I'd imagine your skills should be quite marketable there :beer:

    You could give freelancer.co.uk or elance.com a blast, as there's always a demand for Javascript programmers.

    There are hundreds of freelancer websites where people post jobs and freelancers bid on them.

    The two challenges are (1) like anything of this ilk getting jobs when you have no feedback is hard so start off doing some very small projects for low cost to get some feedback and (2) you are competing against people from all over the world and so will never be the cheapest (assuming you estimate the time required correctly) and so you have to find something other than price to compete on.

    Be aware that these sites can be frustrating as most projects posted are never awarded to anyone so you can waste a lot of time reading briefs, writing pitches, answering questions etc and then the poster just disappears.

    I'm a software developer myself and peopleperhour.com has been the best by far for me.

    You should have drawn up a legal contract for the work.
