  • From April 3013, council tax benefit (as was), will be determined by the Local Authority, so if you are expected to contribute and how much will depend on where you live.

For example if you live in Wolverhampton it will still all be paid next year. If you live in Walsall you will have to pay approx 20 percent. If you live in an authority area with a large number of pensionable age folk, you will likely pay more.

The local authority, will be given 10 per cent less than it currently costs them , pensioners are protected and how the remaining is allocated or if the shortfall will come from Council coffers will be determined locally
Thanks for that really cheered me up when they come for the crumbs I have left will tell them to feed the birds with them as I won't need them any more bit of satire for you. :~)))

Can you ask the CAB or Help the Aged about a local food bank? Also if you did voluntary work somewhere like soup kitchen/luncheon club you would be able to get your meals with the clients.
I would also ask your daughter if she could help in any way. After all you brought her up and paid for her. I would do anything to help my own mother. Also look on the council vacancies for dinner ladies and domestic assistants as the council often employer older workers.
Its pretty hard managing on just a tenner for food.Have any of your friends got allotments and could they offer you anything?.

Nothing to do with the area that's what the rent is as I said if you read my post was living here with my daughter and not claiming HB it was only with a change of circumstances when my
daughter left at age 29 thought she would be with me forever.

Unfortunately I think this is probably where your problem lies.

You are living in a house which presumably has two bedrooms since your daughter live with you until recently and you thought that she would stay with you forever.

Now you are a single person and only entitled to the one bedroom rate. Since that is not enough to pay your rent you must either find a one bed flat or room in a shared house, or take a lodger in to pay for the vacant room. Not all lodgers are dangerous or risky. I myself have a lodger because the alternative would have been to give up my home and move somewhere cheaper which considering my house has been specifically adapted for my disabilities wasn't really an option.

It is hard and you have my sympathy, but the law provides only a minimum basic income and if your outgoings are bigger than your income, hard decisions have to be made.

    I think Andy is back!
Disabled people have become easy scapegoats in this age of austerity.

  • So sorry to hear about your predicament, didn't just want to read and run.
I wish we lived closer as we have been trying to find a reliable cleaner for years and just haven't been successful in the horrid Midlands town we live in.
Keep an eye on the The Lady adverts as there are agencies in there as well, perhaps you could sign up with one or more and travel a bit to do quite well paid in house carer type work?? There are often also positions for Housekeepers in there.
Just a thought as well, B&Q employ older people as well, its worth looking into.

Sorry but pension credit is only available from the woman's pension age which isn't 60 anymore.
