Olympics Games Maker uniforms

I'm hoping that someone can give me a factual answer to this question, maybe someone "in the know" from LOCOG.

I have a spare set of the uniform that I didn't wear (my shifts were split up over 30 days so I washed one set every night).

Can I sell it on E Bay or does it still belong to the government ? I don't want to list it without knowing it's OK as I don't want one of their warnings.

Thanks for your help.

If in doubt, don't sell. I think it's playing with fire tbh, people have had stuff removed and you could put an otherwise good account in danger. I think any security risk will be nullified by the end of the games, and starting now you wouldn't risk anyone buying it who had nefarious intentions for the last days of the Paralympics, but with eBay allowed to ban things arbitrarily, they can make some surprising decisions and throw up the 'it's our site' ground rule that can cover anything they want.

BTW - aside from the eBay issue - well done, you (collectively) did us proud. Have been to three separate days of competition and everyone was amazing. You deserve a gong for that :). The gamesmakers were amazing, very well trained and it must have been exhausting at times.

    A big :T :T :T :T :T :T.

Can't agree more, well done all of you!

Back to the original question. Grey area I rekon. A work uniform is normally the property of the company you work for and it's standard procedure to be asked for it back when your employment ceases. I don't know if it belongs to you or not.

I have a question though. Given it may become a freebie, ie it doesn't owe you anything, is now the right time to sell? I don't know the answer, to my question, just wondered on yours, and others thoughts.

I know someone who was a helper giving these out and they have been folled out like candy - so many people have registered to be a volunteer but not come back after getting the uniform and helper kit so I doubt there can be any realistic security threat: that's controlled by the passes

I'd assume there would have been something to sign/agree to when you received the uniform as it wouldn't be unexpected for them to appear on Ebay.

On a more commercial note, I was a volunteer at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester and still have the uniform, but all the best prices went within 6 months of the games ending.

I can't really see why anyone would object to any volunteers wanting to earn some money out of it, plenty of others did without doing much work at all.

  • thanks for your kind comments about Games Makers. It was an absolute pleasure and honour to get the "job" and I enjoyed every second. For the first 2 weeks afterwards I was numb, didn't know what to do with myself !

I've tried to describe to family and friends how it felt to be at the Olympic Park for a month (started before the Opening) but it's impossible.

To top off the whole Olympic experience, I "won" tickets in the first ballot for the Stadium - what turned out to be that Super Saturday. Still cannot believe I saw and screamed for Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis and Greg Rutherford. Cost me an arm and a leg but worth every penny.

What can I do next to top this summer's excitement ????

If you’re selling items associated with the London 2012 Olympic Games, you should be aware that several Olympic-related items are prohibited for sale according to the laws and guidelines.
    You aren’t allowed to sell:
    • Olympic tickets
    • Olympic travel passes
    • Official Olympic uniforms and equipment, for example Games Makers uniforms, for the duration of the London 2012 Olympics and the London 2012 Paralympics.

My friends booked in advance for the archery as my boyfriend is a massive cricket fan and it was mostly to go to Lords rather than to see the Games! I got some tickets in the sales a few months ago for the fencing, and then went to two Paralympic sessions, but I must be jinxed as the only country winning anything was Russia (when they won the archery the other night it felt like I was taking a parade at the Kremlin). But wow...just wow. I mean, how lucky was that?

Take up an extreme sport. Like modern pentathlon where if you're unlucky you get a horse fall on top of you.

Real heart in mouth stuff. I want to try archery and actually got to have a go the other week - I said this after Beijing and never did anything about it (by the time the courses were available the following spring - it's summer sport and the Olympics comes at the end of the season - I'd forgotten about it). More my thing than running or cycling or doing proper exercise but I'm thinking about badminton as well.

Good luck on selling your uniform :).

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but it did say in the guide we were given with the uniform that it was ours to keep after the Games had finished as a souvenir of our time working there. So it is yours to do as you wish with it.
