My car has two extended warranties....mis-sold?

I bought a new car a few months ago and purchased a 3rd-party warranty from the dealer that sold me the car.

A few weeks back I returned a registration card to BMW, and they just wrote to me to confirm that they have transferred the BMW warranty from the dealer to me.

It looks as though the previous owner transferred the BMW warrantee over to the dealer when they sold the car, which has now been subsequently transferred over to me. So, I now have 2 warranties.

The BMW warranty is much more valuable so I called up the other company to cancel and they informed me I'd need to speak to the dealer who sold me the warranty. Spoke to them, you guessed it, no cancellations or partial refunds. This is confirmed in the terms and conditions of the policy.

I feel a little bit hard done by that I'm out of pocket 300 quid.

Any chance I can get this back?

A formal complaint to the manager, Followed by a letter before action?

You were sold a warranty on a vehicle that already had a warranty.

    Thanks, I'll definitely do this.

I wondered if I had grounds to get a refund from my credit card company?

  • Stupid question but I assume that means you paid for it by credit card?

I'd start with the car dealer first, credit card company as a last resort.

Yep, car dealer are taking me for a ride. Telling me that the manager is currently on holiday, even though I recognise his voice and know that I'm actually speaking to him.

The temptation to ring him from his forecourt must be irresistible, wave to him whilst he's spinning you the yarn
