Zanussi oven cooling fan?

We installed a built-in Zanussi fan oven a few months ago. When it is switched off after use, a cooling fan comes on as explained in the instruction manual. Problem is that this fan seems to run for at least 30 minutes, even if oven has only been used for 15 minutes.

Does anyone know if this is normal? I'm worried about the cost of electricity it must be using. Would it help if I left the oven door open to speed up cooling, or is the cooling fan time-controlled in some way?

I wouldn't worry about it, a fan wont use much electricity even if it is on for 30 mins.

    Yes BH, that's pretty normal.

The time the fan runs for depends on the installation all too often, if there's no air getting into the unit then it will run on longer.

Thanks. Didn't thing of ventilation. Will get OH to try to check space around oven and ventilation grill at base of unit. It's fitted in a tall IKEA unit with microwave fitted in special section above and drawers below.

Have you any views on leaving the oven door open to speed up cooling and length of time cooling fan is on?

If it's a full height unit then there should be a "chimney" that runs up the back of it, basically an air space and if that's blocked or not there then there's a problem. Often with some ovens you do need a vent in the bottom, or it's advisable at least, just a little grill so that cold air can be drawn in from the bottom and the hot air expelled at the top.

I tend to find that, on my own oven which is a heavy pyro Smeg one, that leaving the door open makes it cool down slower. The reason I think is that it's latent heat in the unit (the metal body) that you're trying to dispell, not the air inside it as such.

    Hope that helps.

Just installed a Bosch oven and it does the same thing. According to their FAQ:

Why does the fan continue to run when my oven is off?

All our ovens have a ventilator fan which keeps the oven housing cool. This will continue to run until the oven exterior temperature drops to 50 degrees C which, depending upon the cooking temperature used, could be 30 minutes or more.
