Recent Hand and lower arm Amputee advice please

My Father was in a Road Traffice Accident abroad last month and had his left hand severed and lower 3rd of his arm amputated. He is a 57 year old self employed carpenter who was left handed. and has been given persmission to fly back this weekend.

Can anyone advise on what support he can apply for? Thanks in advance

    He cannot apply for DLA yet, as his accident was under 3 months ago.
    It's questionable if he'd get any award for this anyway, for 'just' having one hand/arm.
    He will not be entitled to employment and support allowance in the long term, if he's otherwise fit, though in the short term, he can apply for this, and get it for up to 13 weeks, if he has a note from his doctor.

    Other than this, there is little help.
    If he has no income, he may be entitled to council tax benefit, and/or help with housing costs.

    If someone was to blame for the accident he should speak to a solicitor to look at his losses etc. An award would impact on benefit entitlement.
