How to repay overpaid WTC

Options
I have a problem with HMRC in that they claim to have overpaid me WTC from 2 years ago - to the tune of around £1800
(due to them claiming not to have received notification from me of a change in income - which in itself was insignificant)
nb ALWAYS send letters to HMRC by signed for registered post !!

This, I have (of course) queried and they claim to have received notification from DWP that I received twice as much ESA earlier on in the tax year - which I queried with DWP - who, eventually admitted to making a mistake - sending notifications twice to HMRC !!

I was threatened with a court summons - which, when it arrived - scared the hell out of me (I have never been to court in my life) and
I agreed to pay them whatever they wanted !!

Anyway - 2 years down the line - I am still waiting for the settlement sum - I wrote to WTC, 7 weeks ago - to try to get it cleared up (the monkey weighs heavily on my back !!)
But still nothing heard back from them

Evidentally - I do not have any rights to query whether or not I have to repay any amount that they require back - but do have the rights to query the actual amount - a weird state of affairs !!

I feel that I have done everything possible to repay the correct amount without any sucess - so am now just leaving it and keeping my fingers crossed that they will consider me "small fry" at least not worth pursuing ?
Plus - they have another 3 years until they can no longer get their money back (5 years I think ?)

Ring the DMB helpline and set up a time to pay. They will confirm the amount.

There is no statute bar on HMRC for tax credits so the 6 year limit does not apply.

Unfortunately HMRC are like dogs and bones - they'll never give up!! My oh got a letter last Dec saying he had underpaid income tax (not his fault) from 3 years ago!! We currently pay back at £86 per month. There is no way they will "write it off" Why not put a few quid away every month, so when they do "come calling" you'll have some to give them, and have less to pay back per month?

HMRC and WTC may as well be seperate entities - believe it or not - they do not even talk together - despite supposedly being part of the same department...
