Student Loan Payback

Son at Uni. We were borderline for any financial help. I don't have any problems with that, he loves Uni and we all accept that he has to pay for the education.
I might have this wrong but is it true that those who do get help (due to parents low income) - do not have to pay the loan back at all.
If this is true, I don't understand why if 2 students graduate and start work, one has to pay back the loan, the other does not. Seems totally unfair because at that stage - nothing to do with parents income.
Have I go this right??

Students whose families are on a low income are eligible for a maintenance loan and a maintenance grant. Everybody has to pay back the maintenance loan but the maintenance grant is not repayable.0

you're info is incorrect. A loan is a loan and must be paid back0

There appears to be a difference of opinion here guys0

all loans need to be paid back - but help given out on grants does not need to go back. there are a variety of grants that people can get, however they are usually not nearly as valuable as the total of available loans.:happyhear0
