Apparently there was a fire in Buddies about two or three years ago (this was before we found it) but its fine now. Joe's Diner is at the top of the main drag in the town centre, on the same side as Yorks Furniture. Food is the same as Buddies but its a bigger restaurant overall. They have a really good table at the front that would easily sit 12 people or so.

Don't ask me about pubs, I know nothing!.

Here are my directions, I park in the Grovenor and come out of the grovenor entrance that is near bhs and that nice cookie shop. As you come out you will see an alley way opposite and on the corner of that alleyway is a butchers shop, go up alley and turn right into dychurch (I think) and buddies is down there on the left. It is literally less than two mins from the grovenor entrance.

Hope you have a fab time.

Just checked the copy cat recipe and it looks a bit more savoury than mine (with the addition of the beef stock cubes). I am still waiting for one of you to try the recipe that I have posted. Go on give it a go, you won't regret, although your hips might!

There's also a recipe for Jack Daniels Dipping Sauce which seems sweeter so is possibly more like the 'moonshine' sauce.

Ok I am going to give you the recipe, I made a couple of changes which I will tell you about at the bottom.

    1 Bulb of garlic
    1 tsp olive oil
    2/3 Cup of Water
    1 Cup Pineapple Juice
1/4 Cup of Terriyaki Sauce (recipe calls for Kikkoman's which I just happened to have in but any will do)
    1 tsp Soy Sauce
1 1/3 Cups of Brown Sugar
    3 tsp Lemon Juice
    3 tsp minced onion
    1 tsp Jack Daniels Whisky
    1 tsp crushed pineapple
    1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper.

Didn't have a fresh garlic bulb in so used a large tsp of easy chopped garlic
Didn't bother with crushed pineapple, as my hubby had just given it to my son with carnation milk over it!
Out of Cayenne so used chilli powder instead.

Cut top and tail off garlic bulb, remove some of the outer layer but stay together and roast in olive oil for 1 hour.
Remove and cool so that you can handle it.

Or do as I did and use a large tsp of lazy chopped garlic.

Combine, water, pineapple juice, teriyaki sauce, soy sauce nd brown sugar in a saucepan over a medium heat.

Sir occasionally unitl mixture boils, then reduce heat to simmer.

Add remaining ingredients to the pan and stir

Squeeze out two tsp of garlic (if not using lazy)

Let simmer for 35 -45 mins or until sauce has reduced by 1/2 and is syrupy. (This actually thickens considerably when cool, you can then put the rest in a pot and put it in the freezer)

Use as you like, if adding to grilled meat, add at the end because the high sugar content could make it burn.

If you really like it, please be sure to come back and stroke my ego by telling me so. If you don't like it, just remember I bruise easily!

Thanks ever so much for this recipe! I cooked it tonight and it was amazing!!
