Flights to Australia

I want to visit my brother in Australia in the next year. When is the cheapest to go, ie days of the week, time of year? Does anyone have airline recommendations? Is it best to book early or leave it til last minute? All advice gratefully received.

    Hi
I dont know if I am allowed to post links on here but I found out that Qatar airways have a 3 day sale , which ends TODAY.(not sure if its already been mentioned)
there is a lot of small print and you need to check t&cs but apparently you can fly from Milan or Rome to Perth, and back Perth to London which cost just under £400 !!! and you can get a budget flight to italy...
will try to post the link with spaces, hope it works (I'm a forum newbie...)

The link doesn't work for me at all, but the lowest fares are always April to the end of June, winter in Australia and low season for travel as a result. If you want the cheapest, then the best airlines are unlikely to be the ones you will be looking at, China Eastern and China Southern are often cheap, so is Vietnam Airlines but the flight times may not be the best. The best airlines are a subjective choice, it depends where you want to go in Oz, the best choice is to Sydney but there are fewer options to other airports. Take advice, I have only flown BA to Oz itself and even though I like BA, I felt a zombie on arrival, heaven knows what a longer journey would be like!
  • If you want cheapest flights, book early. Skyscanner has a good tool where you can select to depart from any UK to any Australia at any time of the year, and it will tell you the cheapest flights. https://www.skyscanner.net

'attitude' to travelling varies from person to person; I went to NZ about 10 years ago, 27 hours, of which I slept about 15. Arrived fresh as a daisy :-)
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

Some people can sleep on planes, some like me cannot. If you want the cheapest flights they may add another 10 hours to your journey, only you can decide whether the saving in cost is worth it or not.
