buying clothes from hong kong

hi
Has anyone got any experience of buying clothes on e bay from hong kong? As far as i can make out it seems to be the luck of the draw as to whether you get asked to pay import tax. Also i've heard that items worth less than £18 are exempt. Anyone know what the deal is on this. The prices seem pretty good even with the cost of postage.
thanks for any help. x

I personally wouldn't buy clothes from Hong Kong. There is a poster on here, I think it might be computerwoman who regularly buys from there.
Yep anything under £18 is OK.
It's a totally random process.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

If your buying "designer" clothes they will most likley be fakes.There are 10 types of people in the world.

I buy quite a few items of clothing from India (not HK though) with no problems at all. I tend to make sure I pay for items separately to try and keep below the £18 threshold, but even when items have been bundled together and declared at over £18 I have never yet been asked for extra tax.
The clothes are very cheap but the quality isn't brilliant, but I tend to be buying for costuming or for goth /medieval style costumes so it doesn't matter. I wouldn't buy anything that was sold as a designer item though.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I bought some fabulous thai fisherman-type trousers from Hong Kong on eBay and they were really good. The delivery time was superb and the quality was excellent - really thick, heavy cotton with a lovely weave.
I bought a pair of tie-dyed trousers too and they were lovely; again great quality and unlike some of the stuff I buy over here the colours didn't fade on the first wash.
I don't remember paying tax and the delivery prices were very good (cheaper than some of the people who post from the UK :rolleyes: )

Arghh, you found my guilty secret, I love costuming and there are some weird and wonderful items of clothing in my wardrobe. Only this afternoon I bought a velvet half frock coat to cheer myself up.

I bought a dress for my daughter (She's 4) for about £12 including postage and didn't pay any extra. It is perfect for a little girl and a similar thing in Sainsbury's TU (so again - not anything fabulous) was £20.
I say, go for it!
